Osipovichi district is located in the south-west of Mogilev region. It was formed on July 17, 1924. It occupies an area of 1.9 thousand square km. The population of the district is 25.5 thousand people, 21% are urban dwellers. The average population density is 14 people per one sq. km. There is a town of Osipovichi (the centre of the district), the work settlements of Grodyanka, Tatarka and Yelizovo, 153 villages and 12 village councils (Osipovichi, Vyazyevo, Doroganovo, Drichin, Kamenichi, Korytno, Lapichi, Lipen, Pogoreloye, Protosevichi, Svisloch, Yasen) in the district.
It is located within the Central Berezina plain. The average altitude is 150-170 m above sea level, the highest point (206.5 m) is situated four km to the west from the village of Protasevichi.
Natural resources: peat, clay, construction sand.
January's average temperature is minus 6.7 C, June's average temperature - plus 18.7 C. Annual precipitation equals 640 millimeters. Vegetative period lasts 192 days.
The river Berezina crosses the district with its tributaries the Svisloch and the Ptich. There is Osipovichi reservoir on the Svisloch.
The prevailing soil type is sod-podzol, sod-podzol marsh and peat marsh. Forests make up 57% of the territory.
Mstislavl district natural sight is a park in the village of Dubrovo (founded 1909).
The total area of agricultural land equals 61.7 thousand hectares, 22.1 thousand of which is drained land. Agricultural producers specialise in milk and meat cattle breeding, grain (wheat, rye, barley, oat, buckwheat) and feed crops, potatoes, vegetables.
The principal industry branches are food, peat brick and construction materials production, wood working industry. There is a hydroelectric power station in the district.
Minsk - Bobruisk (with a line to Grodyanka) and Mogilev - Baranovichi railways and highway Minsk - Gomel cross the district.
19 secondary, 4 nine-year and 2 elementary schools, a sports school, 21 kindergartens, 35 libraries, 12 hospitals, 21 medical centers and children's sanatoriums Vyazye and Lapichi function on the territory of the district.
