In the Village of Lenino (Mogilev Region, Gorki District) there is a memorial that symbolizes the battle community of Belarusians and Poles. It was there where the Army of the People of Poland named after Tadeusz Kostyusko was formed back in 1943. The liberation army was formed in the territory of the USSR, armed with Soviet ammunition and included Polish patriots.
The battle of Lenino was the first time the Polish army participated in military action.
There left common graves near Lenino with 1,711 Soviet and 502 Polish warriors. In 1968 they opened a memorial and a museum in the shape of a soldier’s helmet.
The memorial regularly hosts meetings of WWI veterans.
