Belarus redenominated its official currency.

President signed decree “Concerning the redenomination of the official currency of the Republic of Belarus”

The document specifies that the official currency of the Republic of Belarus will be redenominated on 1 July 2016. As a result, all banknotes designed in 2000 will be replaced by banknotes and coins designed in 2009 in the following ratio: Br10,000 will become Br1.

Belarusian counterfeiters take up counterfeiting smaller banknotes with nomination of Br5 - 20 thousand. The most “popular” is a banknote of Br10 thousand. The reason is that a ten-thousand false banknote is easy to take for the original one because of its red dye, the information and PR department of the regional internal affairs office says.

The most frequent cases deal with Russian rubles and American dollars. Sellers of the false banknotes say they changed currency at the banks located in Russia.

Criminal cases were opened against 4 law-breakers. Control purchase in Osipovichi led to arrest of a money changer from Minsk. He was confiscated for $2,000. In Bobruisk a woman involved in illegal exchange transactions was confiscated for 40,000 Russian rubles.

In Mogilev region three persons were made criminally responsible for illegal exchange operations. 53 administrative reports were drawn up on them.

The Department for Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee has been suppressing illegal financial activity of the kind. Due to the financial militia’s work the state treasury has increased by almost BYR500 mln.

Klichev forestry makes money from sawdust

Klichev forestry makes about € 300,000 per year from sawdust. Production of briquettes from raw waste lumber was opened less then a year ago. According to a chief forester Oleg Selikh, 350,000 – 380,000 such briquettes are produced each month and exported abroad, mainly to Denmark and Germany.
