In 2012 Mogilev region fixed a three-time decrease in the number of rabies (from 308 to 103). For many years a fox has been a main source and reservoir of rabies (69.9%). Quite often other wild animals are rabies carriers. Raccoon dogs make 6.8% of cases. Horses can transmit rabies to other animals and people (1%). The cases of rabies are frequent among dogs (11.7%) and cats (4.9%).

January-July Mogilev region to fix 65% decrease in rabies cases

January-July 2012 Mogilev region fixed 67 rabies cases. It is a 65% drop comparing with last year’s statistics over the same period. Last year registered 192 cases of rabies. The information is provided by the specialists of the Regional Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health Centre.

January-February registered 26 cases of rabies in 13 districts of Mogilev region

January-February registered 26 cases of rabies in 13 districts of Mogilev region. Comparing with the same period 2011 the situation got worse. Among sick animals there are foxes (19 cases), domestic cats (2 cases), and dogs (2 cases). Mogilev district is a leader by the number of rabies incidents. It is followed by Bykhov district (4 cases) and Klimovichi district (4 cases).
